The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has raised the standards for securing car seats in vehicles. Over the past few years, IIHS has required vehicle manufacturers to make installation improve ease-of-use. Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) makes installing car seats easier and ensure that children are properly secured.

LATCH Systems Keep Your Child Safer

Many vehicles were rated for their ease-of-use and did poorly before the LATCH ratings system. Since then, newer cars have earned higher ratings. LATCH recommendations include moving the locations of the car seat anchors and installation apparatus. The relocation will make them more accessible and making car seats safer in the event of an accidental impact to the vehicle.

The automotive industry recognizes the importance of protecting children. Manufacturers are making considerable improvements in easier to install and anchors for car seats. LATCH continues to monitor the industry and work with manufacturers and consumers to improve car seat safety.
